Accomplishments

  • Currently serving on a board that established the Johnstown Land Bank. This was created with the cooperation of the taxing entities under the auspices of the Johnstown Redevelopment Authority, a project that has been talked about for years and finally come to fruition. It facilitates getting property back into taxation and creates a competitive process to find the best stewards for available real estate.

In addition, I serve on municipal boards and commissions (Planning Commission and Johnstown Redevelopment Authority/Johnstown Regional Sewage) to promote the highest and best use of real estate. This helps direct staff who administer important grant programs (like ARPA Home Weatherization) to prevent properties from deteriorating & being demolished, and helps save historic assists and people’s homes.

  • With intense passion to save this building, I partnered with the property owner who intended to demolish historic 658 Locust St, a Federalist-style residence (and likely the oldest structure in the downtown business district.) It has now been restored and will be available for future community programs!

  • In 2024, I founded the Johnstown Animal Welfare Society (JAWS) with individual and community partners to care for stray cats. This service includes trapping and neutering then rehoming or releasing them. JAWS passed a stronger anti-cruelty ordinance and offers a monthly low-cost pet spay and neuter clinics, along with sponsorship.

  • For over 10 years, I served on the board of directors for non-profit arts and culture organizations including The Steeples Project, parent of the Grand Halle and Columba Theatre Project. We were successful in restoration and reuse of historic architectural gems, reimagined as concert halls, wedding venues, performing arts spaces, and even used to record the newest album of a prominent local punk band.

  • I volunteer to assist Gallery on Gazebo, an arts venue in the heart of the city’s business district, bringing programming and promoting the arts as a means of building community, healing, and celebrating our neighbors.

  • I helped organize the “Welcoming Johnstown” event as a response to the minority xenophobic and dangerous response to discussions about bringing Afghani refugees to Johnstown. The event celebrated the contributions of immigrants living and working in the greater Johnstown area, enriching our culture and community. This event featured food, music, dance, and powerful storytelling about the courageous, inspiring journeys of our immigrant neighbors. We are all different and we all belong.

  • While on City Council, I promoted increased accountability, professionalism, and transparency in city government by working with former city manager to establish job descriptions and a performance evaluation schedule for all city employees.
